Any suggestions for a good road bike?

So, I'm looking for a good road bike. I live in a pretty hilly area and will be riding my bike to and from university almost everyday. I might end up doing a triathlon or a bike race down the road, but I'm not too interested in having the "perfect" bike for racing. I'm more interested in a good road bike that will last me for my next few years of college and is at a cheap price (college student budget). Any suggestions or things/brands I should look out for when buying a used bike?
