Could someone tell me what Northwestern Ontario is like?

Dad moved camp a couple of miles, with what was left of his stuff, planned to cut his trip short because he didn't have enough food any more. The bear found the new camp and tried again. Dad had to shoot it. He figured only one of them was going to survive and he'd like it to be him.
