HELP with social studies.. the first bull run battle in the civil war?
Union forces were going to attack the left flank of the confederate forces. They had young, inexperienced officers who did not do this very well. Oddly enough, the confederates also planned to attack the left side of the Union forces. This, equally did not go very well, but after reinforcements arrived from the south, Thomas Jackson led a fierce defense and counter attack from which he earned the name "Stonewall Jackson". Both sides got sort of scared and neither pursued advantages when they came along. Many people believe that it was because many of the soldiers on both sides were sickened by the excessive violence. The battle was sort of a "truce" though you could say the confederates still won the battle. Because they did not pursue the union army, it would be stated as a non-win for either side.
