Is it normal to get hungry the day after a race even though your not excercising?

Yesterday i ran about 16 miles of hilly terrain with at least 2000ft climb just wondering if its normal to be hungry the next day even though you are being sedentry. I do a lot of running but usually 4-10 miles and not as much hills. i think i once heard of something called afterburn but i'm not really sure.
